In Dakshina Kannada, getting married in temples just got tougher

Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-07-21 18:41 Mangaluru: In a move that is surely to earn the ire of couples in Dakshina Kannada, the district administration has made it mandatory for temples to get a requisition letter from the parents of bridegroom and the bride before conducting the wedding.The district administration justified the step saying it had received complaints of girls being forced to marry in temples if parents objected to the love affair.Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar cited an incident wherein the bride’s parents claimed that their daughter had been forced into marrying by the groom and his family at a temple.In order to prevent such incidents, the administration has made it mandatory for all temples under the endowment department to collect a requisition letter from the parents of both bride and the groom, the Addl DC said.Besides, both the parties are also expected to submit proof of age certificates. This will help curbing child marriages, he added.
