A shopping mall in the city is said to have settled its tax arrears to the tune of Rs1.64 crore owed to the Mangaluru City Corporation in a single day on receiving a warning notice from the MCC. On July 16, a notice had been served on the management of the mall that any further failure to pay the outstanding amount could lead to a raid by the MCC. The warning worked like a charm on Monday. On July 18, a team from the civic boy raided a few shops around the central market for non-payment of taxes. As the news spread, the mall management appears to have realised that they could be the next in the firing line.
