The derailment occurred soon after the train left Mangaluru Junction at 12.32 pm. There were 11 passengers in the train but there were no casualties, said a senior railway official, adding that passengers had been refunded the ticket amount. The return trip of the DEMU (70106) remained cancelled. But railway authorities provided an unscheduled stop to Mangaluru Central-Mumbai LTT Matsyagandha Express at Mangaluru Junction to facilitate passengers waiting to board the DEMU. Several trains on the sector were delayed as only one line was available for the movement of trains.
