Temple burgled in Punacha; silver artefacts worth Rs6.7cr stolen

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-07-08 17:55 Bantwal: Police have formed special teams to catch the culprits behind the burglary at the 800-year-old Mahishamardini temple in Punacha gram panchayat limitson Wednesday night. According to information available, burglars decamped with nearly 18 kilograms of silver artefacts worth Rs6.7-crore and two hundis filled with cash from the temple.Fingerprint experts and a canine squad from Mangaluru police combed the place for clues for nearly 2 hours. But sources said that burglars had worn hand gloves and had not left any fingerprints behind. The police are also checking the CCTV footage for leads.The Vittal police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the temple governing council secretary D Sridar Shetty.Bantwal circle inspector K U Belliyappa, Vittal sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga and police personnel have done preliminary investigations.
