Minister launches new initiatives to empower SHGs

Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-06-22 19:24 Mysuru: The Department of Women and Child Welfare has started a pilot project in Mysuru in association with Gruhalakshmi Value Mart to provide household items at concessional rates to women’s groups and help SHGs to market their products.Revealing the new initiatives, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Department Umashree said women enrolled with SHGs had to get membership card with Gruhalakshmi Value Mart to avail products at concession price. “Women’s groups and individuals can market their products/commodities through this platform. Money earned will be debited to their respective bank accounts,” she said.The initiative does away with middlemen and generates reasonable profits for their manufacturing products such as handicrafts, said Umashree.Out of 6,602 women SHGs in the district, 6,153 groups are active in commercial activities, said Umashree, adding that the government was providing Rs5,000 every year for every SHG. “Also, Rs15,000 incentives are being provided for groups saving Rs75,000 and Rs20,000 for those groups saving Rs1 lakh,” she said.
