Teaching is not about passing information: Professor

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-06-17 17:18 Mysuru: A four-week long orientation program for teachers at UG and PG levels across the country began at the at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre in Manasagangotri on Friday. In his inaugural address, Awadesh Kumar Mishra, Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), stressed on the importance of communication skills in teaching. “Apart from having an in-depth knowledge in respective teaching subjects, teachers must have smart ideas for handling human resources,” said Awadesh Kumar, adding that there was need to link “social knowledge and academic knowledge”. The director said the objective of teaching was not to mere pass information but to “inspire” and bring out the hidden talents in students. “Teachers should gain knowledge in numerous subjects so that they can teach the subject in a better manner,” said Awadesh Kumar.
