Speaking with Bfirst, the progressive thinker and independent candidate said that even though the election had been turned into a triangular fight between the major political parties, there was a "need to intervene to bring positive changes" in the system. Without naming any party, Bhagawan said that he had been approached by "representatives of major parties" seeking his support. "I asked them about their chances, they replied that money played major role and that is why they were confident." Continuing, Bhagawan said a few parties were "spending about Rs 20 lakh for arranging liquor parties in hotels and resorts". "So I went on a tour of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan seeking support from graduates. I was surprised when youngsters came out in support which gave me confidence. I hope money power will lose in this election,"said Bhagawan. Various progressive organisations including Dalita Sangarsha Samiti, SDPI, and Dalit Welfare Trust have extended support to the professor. Considering the nature of the polls and the profile of the voters, District Magistrate C Shikha is unlikely to ban sale of liquor during the election.
