PSI Gaviraj's vehicle hit another vehicle near a village in Mugtihalli. This led to a bitter argument between the police officer and villagers. In the heat of argument, PSI Gaviraj showed off his service gun apparently to threaten them. Irked over his behaviour, a protester slapped Gaviraj leaving him shocked. Things went out of control when the villagers and the officer indulged in verbal war. As a result, the road connecting the city was blocked and many vehicles lined up on the stretch. Superintendent of Police Annamalai rushed to the spot and instead of quelling the situation, he began arguing with the protesters. Protesters were in no mood to relent when he asked why they manhandled the police officer. He even went to the extent of threatening to break their bones, if they continued to protest and affect the traffic. At least seven persons have been taken into custody in this connection and cases have been lodged under IPC Sections 326, 353, 504 and 506 against them.
