Techies of reputed firm among arrested for killing and poaching in Bhadra Tiger Reserve

Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2017-01-02 18:30 Bengaluru: Eleven people – most of them techies – have been arrested for poaching and killing two Sambar deer and a gaur in Bhadra Tiger Reserve, Chikmagalur on Janauary 1.One of the arrested is identified as Rafiq, while identities of the other arrested are yet to be made. Rafiq is a gold medallist in shooting and these persons are said to have taken Rafiq's help in killing the animals. Rafiq, a resident of Attigundi, adjacent to Muthodi range forest, Bhadra Tiger reserve, is absconding, said the sources. Wildlife activists have expressed their anger over the incident especially when the arrested are educated, techies working with a software giant. It is said that the forest department is under severe pressure from political circles to protect the accused, as they are associated with a reputed software firm. Activists hope that these poachers are given stringent punishment without yielding into the pressure.
