They will be moved to Amba Vilas Palace premises on August 26. The Howdah elephant Arjuna, Abhimanyu, Gajendra, Balarama, Cauvery and Vijayaa are in the first batch. Arjuna has got a new mahout following the death of his caretaker Maasti. Now, Maasti’s son Sannappa will be the mahout of howdah elephant. In a first of its kind, the forest department and the district administration are planning to monitor the jumbos – once they are housed at the palace premises – round-the-clock. Already, CCTVs are being installed at the temporary sheds for the purpose.
