Mysuru mourns Rakesh as body arrives from Antwerp

Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-08-01 14:14 Mysuru: Thousands of citizens, leaders of political parties, and the civil society mourned the untimely death of Rakesh Siddaramaiah, whose mortal remains reached his home city today.A glass-covered van carried the body of Rakesh from Mandakalli airport to Dasara Exhibition Grounds where it will be kept for public viewing. The body of Rakesh, accompanied by his father and chief minister Siddaramaiah, his mother Parvathi and brother Yatheendra arrived by a special flight from Antwerp where he passed away after being hospitalized after he took ill.Rakesh, 39, died of multi-organ failure on Saturday at University Hospital in Brussels. Rakesh was undergoing treatment for a pancreatic disease at the hospital where he was admitted after developing sudden health complications when he was on a personal trip to Europe with friends since July 21. There was an outpouring of shock over Rakesh’s death and sympathy for the family, and the chief minister, whose political legatee Rakesh was projected to be.As the van carrying Rakesh’s mortal remains made its way from Mandakalli Airport to the Exhibition Ground, thousands lined both sides of the streets to pay their last respects to the young political leader whose life was cruelly cut short by illness.At the Exhibition grounds, more than 50,000 people waited to pay homage, including top Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes, Muniyappa and V Srinivas Prasad. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa, opposition leader Jagadish Shettar and K S Eshwarappa were present.Police, who tried to control the crowd and tried to push them away from the VVIP gate and enclosure, faced the wrath of the mourners.
