Heavy rain in catchment areas pushes up water levels in dams

Submitted by Rashmi on Tue, 2016-07-12 18:18 KRS/Harangi: Heavy rain in the catchment areas of Cauvery river has pushed up the water levels in KRS, Kabini, and Harangi reservoirs.Agricultural activities have also seen a spurt in the Kodagu region following the heavy rain.Water level stood at KRS stood at 91.65feet against the max level 124.80 ft on Tuesday, with an inflow of 6381 cusecs and an outflow 3766 cusecs. In Kabini, water level stood at 2267.16 ft from against the maximum level of 2284 ft. In Harangi, water level was at 2857.27 ft against the maximum level of 2859ft, with increased inflow of 15223 cusecs.On July 10, four crest gates were opened for the first time this monsoon and 3000 cusecs were released into the river.Official sources said if the inflows continue, more water will be released for various agriculture purposes after a meeting with the irrigation department.
