Small, tabletop potted plants or terrariums are the new definition of gifts. If you care to nurture it - like your love - it will grow and glow. Geetha Girish, who grows these terrariums at Sanjaynagar, says these plants are ideal not only for gifting but also enhances the decor of interiors. She displayed some of her collections at the recently concluded green fair organised by Malleswaram Swabhiman Initiative at Himanshu College. Terrariums are not only beautiful, they have more shelf life than a bouquet. "Bouquet has almost dead flowers. Instead you can gift these that will bloom," adds Geetha. With a keen eye on beauty, Geetha's terrariums are embellished with small trinkets, toys and pebbles. African violet, watermelon peperomia, starfish plant and golden clubmoss are the preferred plants for terrariums. But Geetha has used locally available mint leaves too. However, it's the peace lily plant that she recommends for a perfect gift. "This plant has been recommended by NASA for its high air purification qualities. In this pollution filled world, keep this peace lily in your room and breathe fresh air," says Geetha. "All the plant needs is an hour in the morning sun," she adds. "Gifting cards and chocolates on Valentine's Day is passé. Gift someone a plant and they will always be thankful to you," says Namitha.
