Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-06-20 17:31 Bengaluru: In a major victory to doctors practising Ayurveda and Unani in the state, Dr Poornima Bhat on Friday took over as registrar of Karnataka Ayurveda and Unani Practitioners' Board (KAUPB) after Dr Thimmappa Shettigar, who had been accused of corruption, finally vacated the post. The state government had transferred Dr Thimmappa Shettigar on April 21 on corruption charges but Dr Shettigar refused to vacate the post, forcing the government to issue another order on May 26, 2016 shunting Shettigar out of the board. However, Shettigar still continued to work in his post defying the government order. Finally, with increased pressure from the secretariat level, Dr Shettigar had no option but to move out. Bhusnurmath Rajashekar, President of National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA), Karnataka State Branch, said, “Our fight against corruption in the board have borne fruit. Dr. Thimmappa Shettigar was involved in many charges, yet he refused to move out the post. We thank the state government for listening to us but we still insist on a CoD inquiry against the board’s corruption charges.”
