Fatima has not only mastered the ancient Indian science of healing but she is also teaching it in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she is the only Muslim certified yoga instructor.Fatima’s family has roots in Belvai, a small town near Moodbidri, but she grew up in Saudi, as her parents are settled there.Fatima For Fatima, a commerce graduate, the hardest part lay in convincing people about the benefits of Yoga."People found it difficult to accept it initially. Later, when they realised the benefits of yoga, they went for it,” she says. Her first attempt at introducing yoga had been a flop. But she didn’t give up. “Supported by my colleagues, I persisted with and got a positive result,” she says. And she is also keeping herself up-to-date on the latest advances in yoga. “Three years ago, I enrolled at the Avishkar Yoga and Holistic Centre in Bejai and learnt more. Whenever I get time, I try to learn more about advanced yoga techniques," Fatima says.Fatima conducts classes only for women."There is a misconception among people that our religion has many restrictions especially for women. But in reality, it allows us do what we want to as long as we don't cross our boundaries. It gives women a lot of respect," she says.
