Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-06-16 15:52 Mangaluru: Observing that there were no proper stages to showcase Tulu theatre, Mayor Harinat Jogi said an amphitheatre will be built at cost Rs one crore and a blue print of the same will be ready soon to promote tulu plays. He was speaking at the 50th show of Tulu play, ‘Lekka Tatti Bokka’ presented by Vijaya Kalavidaru, Kinnigoli, near here at Town Hall, on Wednesday. MLA K Abhayachandra Jain lauded the troupe members for popularising vernacular plays, that have seen an onslaught by other mediums these days. He was of the opinion that local troupes in rural areas need to be encouraged to preserve the essence of Tulu theatre. Tulu plays with social messages have been a great hit and one cannot ignore their contribution towards enriching Tulu culture and tradition, said Harikrishna Punaoor, former Karnataka Sahitya Parishat president. Mangaluru mayor Harinat Jogi felicitated theatre enthusiasts Niddody Chavadimane Jagannat Shetty, Yadav Kotian Permude and Ashok Yermal on the occasion. On the occasion, audience were treated to the play, Lekka Tatti Bokka.
