The accused have been identified as Raja alias Raasa, 30, from KGF in Kolar district, and Sowmya alias Lakshmi, 23, of Magadi taluk in Ramanagar district. On Sunday around 11am, passers-by noticed bodies of a man and woman lying on the footpath under the Metro track in front of KPTC office in VV Puram. The police launched a probe and established the identity of the deceased as Umesh, 35, and 20-year-old Kutti. The police gathered information on other rag pickers who used to sleep on the same footpath. Investigations revealed that two rag-pickers identified as Raja and Lakshmi had frequent fights with the deceased. “Based on credible information, the accused duo was caught. When they were interrogated, they confessed that they both had frequent fights with Umesh and Kutti. Around two years ago, deceased Kutti had allegedly picked up a fight with Lakshmi and had poured acid on her leg. Due to frequent fights, the accused duo decided to murder Umesh and Kutti,” the police said. “Accordingly, around 2.30am on Sunday, the duo went to the place where Umesh and Kutti regularly slept and bludgeoning the two to death using a stone,” the police added.
