The incident occurred at Basavanapura on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway in Ramanagar on Friday morning. The deceased have been identified as AM Nagaraju, 55, and his wife Uma, 50. The couple resided in Kengeri along with their two sons. According to the police, Nagaraju had been promoted to the rank of ASI and posted to the Ramanagar police station a week ago. He was relieved from his duty at Kumbalgod police station on Wednesday, where he had been previously working as Head Constable. On Friday morning, he was going to report to work at Ramanagar Town police station. “As his wife Uma wanted to visit his hometown Koppa in Maddur for some work, he took her along with him and had planned to drop her at Ramanagar bus station, so that she could catch a bus. While the couple was passing near Basavanapura, a speeding Gypsy jumped the road median and toppled several times and fell on the couple who were coming from the opposite direction. They sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot,” the police said. The gypsy was being driven by Nandan, 19, a BCom student in Mysuru, who sustained minor injuries. “He hails from Chikkamagaluru and was staying in his uncle’s house in Mysuru. He was driving down to Bengaluru to meet his friends. Action will be initiated against him once he is released,” the police added.
