The accused has been identified as Akheel-ur-Rahman, a resident of Anepalya and a broker in a firm dealing in share market. Akheel confessed to killing Syedunnissa, 54, after she refused to lend him money to clear his debts. Basavanagudi Inspector SD Shasidhar said the accused had incurred huge losses in share market and real estate business. He would exploit his in-laws to repay loans and debts. But the accused refused to mend his ways and would continue to invest in shares, with the vicious cycle taking a toll on his marriage and family. Syedunnisa would often humiliate him and even had stopped repaying his debts. Angered with her behaviour, Akheel decided to kill her, said the inspector. To accomplish his task, Akheel began watching videos on murder and routes to escape on the Internet. After working on a plan for six months, Akheel managed to get duplicate keys and studied the movements of his father-in-law, said Shasidhar. On Sunday, Akheel gained entry into the house through the duplicate key and attacked Syedunnisa with an iron box while she was asleep. A severe blow on the head rendered Syedunnisa unconcious. The accused slashed her neck with a knife and gagged her face with a pillow in order to stop her from screaming. In the process Akheel also sustained injuries on his hand. After confirming that Syedunnisa was dead, Akheel removed her blood-soaked clothes, the bedsheet and escaped after locking the door from the outside. The Basavanagudi police zeroed in on Akheel after the police noticed fresh injury marks on his hands. A detailed questioning forced Akheel to confess to the crime.
