The police arrested Karthik on Wednesday under IPC sections 420 for cheating, 506 for criminal intimidation and 493 for cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage. According to the statement given to the police, the accused said the woman, who he met through facebook, had bought a flat through his company and had failed to pay him advance money. In his statement, the accused said the woman had made a false complaint against him and that she was trapping him for the sake of money. Speaking to Bfirst, the 25-year-old victim rubbished the accused’s claims, saying that she had submitted evidence such as call recordings and messages. “It proves that I am not trapping him for money or any other reason. His maternal uncle and his father's friend asked me to compromise and not take any legal steps. When I asked them to apologise to me in writing as well as assure me that I would not be threatened in future and that he would be held responsible in case of any harm to my life, they rejected it. I don’t want their money but he must apologise and guarantee that he will not threaten me in future,” said the victim. The accused reportedly fell in love with the victim after meeting her through facebook and even wanted to marry her. But their affair turned sour after the victim discovered about the accused’s earlier affair with a Hyderabad girl.
