Submitted by alvin on Tue, 2017-02-28 12:44 Bengaluru: A software engineer allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and two-year-old son in Yelahanka New Town. The deceased have been identified as Meenakshi Jha 30, her daughter Anisha 2, and Amith Kumar Jha, 35, residents of Someshwaranagar in Yelahanka New Town. Amith reportedly fed his wife and kid poison and then strangulated them. Later, he hung himself from a ceiling fan. Amith and Meenakshi, both B-Tech graduates, had come to the city a few years ago. Amith had quit his job four years ago. Since then, Meenakshi was working as teacher at a play-home near Dairy Circle in Yelahanka New Town. Police said that Amith was a habitual drinker, and used to spend his wife’s earnings to buy liquor. The couple use to have frequent fights over the issue and also they had developed other disputes over other issues. Meenkashi, who was depressed about this, had informed about his activities to her parents and also to her in-laws. "On Monday, Meenakshi did not go to work. The play-home management made repeated calls, but there was no response from her. At around 7 pm, a woman working as a peon in the play-home visited Meenakshi’s house and found the door locked. She went back after sometime to find the door still locked. So she alerted the neighbours who contacted the house owner who stays nearby. He rushed to the house and knocked the door repeatedly. When there was no response, a few people climbed the neighbouring building managed to open a window glass of a room to find Amith hanging himself to the fan," said the police. Yelahanka police reached the spot at around 10 pm, broke entered the front door of the house to find Meenakshi and baby lying dead in a room on the bed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-east) PS Harsha said Amith had strangulated his wife and child. "We have also collected the samples of materials and food and sent it to forensic science laboratory to find out whether he fed them poison before strangulating them,” said the DCP. The house owner said he wanted to terminate the rental agreement with Amith as neighbours used to complaint about the frequent fights. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of Dr Ambedkar hospital for post-mortem. A case of murder and suicide has been registered by Yelahanka New Town police and further investigation is on.
