The accused has been identified as Jagadish.Pavitra Family members had said that the death was due to natural causes but neighbours alerted the police suspecting foul play in the death of Pavitra. The accused was arrested after the police launched an investigation and discovered that it was a murder. Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) SD Sharanappa said Jagadish had been arrested under murder charges and further investigations are on.Police said that trouble had started ever since Pavitra, younger daughter to couple Chennaiah and Lakshmamma, was forcibly married off. Jagadish, married to Pavitra’s sister Bhuvaneshwari, and Pavitra's parents got her married on discovering her love affair. But Pavitra was unhappy with the marriage and would often return to her parents.Sharanappa said that Jagadish had tried to persuade Pavitra to stop meeting her boyfriend but in vain. "Fed-up, Jagadish told his in-laws that he will take Pavitra to Vellore to perform black magic on her so that she lives with her husband. On February 25, when Pavitra was sleeping, he strangulated her but deceived his in-laws by telling that Pavitra was asleep due to some sickness. Later, Jagadish, in-laws left for Chittoor in a car along with a dead Pavitra. On reaching Vellore, family members to their shock discovered that Pavitra was dead," said Sharanappa. While returning to city on Sunday, Jagadish warned his in-laws that if the truth about Pavitra’s death is reported to the police, their elder daughter’s life will be in jeopardy. "Fearing for the future of their daughter’s life, the parents decided to lie about the true cause of Pavitra death," Sharanappa added. However, neighbours didn't buy the version reported by the parents and Jagadish and alerted the police, who arrested Jagadish.Jagadish confessed to killing Pavitra so that he could grab Chennaiah and Lakshmamma's entire property as the couple don't have a son.Pavitra’s parents own a house in city and an acre land in their native. Pavitra’s body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
