Speaking to media, Uday, husband of Jyothi, said he was happy over the news and demanded strict punishment for the accused. "We had lost hope as the case was three years old. We had to undergo lot of trauma. I was travelling to Mysuru when my wife was injured on that day inside ATM and police had contacted me. God's blessing, my wife's luck and doctors effort has saved her," he said. Recalling the horrific experience, Jyothi said the accused first threatened her with a toy gun and later attacked her with a machete when she refused to give him money. The attacker fled the scene with Jyothi's purse, mobile, and ATM card while Jyothi lay unconscious in the ATM. The attack happened at 7am but the attack came to light at 10.30am as the attacker had downed the shutter. Jyothi was shifted to the Victoria Hospital and later to NIMHANS for treatment. Later, she was shifted to the BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri, where she was treated for 34 days and discharged on December 21, 2013.
