Sources said that Raghavendra was on night patrol and he left behind his vehicle and went to police station all alone. This has given rise to the suspicion that either someone shot him dead or he killed himself. Raghavendra’s suicide comes within months of suicides by two DySPs- that by Kallappa Handibag, who was posted in Chikkamagaluru and M K Ganapathi, who was posted and Mangaluru, and indicates disturbing trends among middle level police officers in the state. IGP Central, Seemanth Kumar Singh told media persons that Raghavendra’s death was being investigated by a DySP rank officer. "It is too early to consider it as suicide. We are investigating on why he went alone to the police station in the night during his night patrol duty. Did someone come to meet him? We will record statements of the police staff and driver. We need some time to come clear about this case," he said. Sources also said that Raghavendra had left behind a death note in which he is alleged to have claimed responsibility for his suicide and mentioned no reason for his act. Kolar SP Divya Gopinath rushed to Malur immediately for initial inquiries. Speaking to media, she said: "The actual reason for his extreme step is not yet known. The forensic team has taken the death note and revolver into its possesion. At present, a case has been registered and investigation is on." It is said that Raghavendra was facing a Lokayukta case against him, for his alleged involvement in gambling. The case is presently being heard by the High court. In 2014, Lokayukta raided his house and he was into judicial custody by the Lokayukta court. The 2003 batch police officer is a native of Narsapura near Vemagal. Raghavendra served as police sub-inspector at Sarjapur police station in Anekal taluk for three years from 2012. He also served in Nandagudi police station near Sarjapur. He was promoted as Circle Inspector two years back.
