Submitted by Editor on Thu, 2016-09-22 00:03 Bengaluru: Four sportsmen were arrested by the police after a suspected thief succumbed to the injuries received at the hands of the four who allegedly thrashed him at Sri Kanteerava Stadiumon Sunday. The four identified as Nishant, Utkarsha, Bharath and Kiran were arrested by the Sampangi Rama Nagar police on Tuesday for the alleged murder of 22-year-old Raju, a resident of HD Kote, who died in Nimhans hospital on Tuesday. Police said that a sportswoman identified as Sneha had filed a complaint after she lost her laptop bag on Saturday. The bag was stolen while she was practicing in the stadium. As she went around enquiring about her bag, 4 sportsmen, Nishant, Utkarsha, Bharath and Kiran, decided to find the culprit as several cases of theft had been previously reported. The four placed mobiles and other valuables at a particular place and hid. Later, when Raju allegedly arrived to steal the phones, the four caught and assaulted him. The jurisdictional Sampangi Rama Nagar police arrived at the scene and took the youth into custody. Raju was shifted to a hospital but he died on Tuesday as did not respond to the treatment. The death forced the police to register a case of murder against Sneha and four others. According to the police, Raju had migrated to Bengaluru 12 years ago and worked as a cook at several orphanages in the city. Recently, he quit his job at a fitness centre. Sandeep Patil, DCP (Central division), said that Raju was injured in the assault in the stadium. His relatives have been informed about the incident, he added.
