The accused Puneet Kumar, a resident of Sunkadakatte, married Pallavi, 24, four years ago and the couple had a three-year-old son. According to the police, the couple began having marital problems recently and had approached the family court with an application for divorce. However, on Thursday, after attending a counselling at the mediation centre, the couple had mutually agreed to withdraw the divorce petition. Pallavi, who until then was living with her parents, returned to their home on Thursday night. However, the couple had a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Puneet attacked her with a chopper and went to the police station to surrender. The Kamakshipalya police have taken up the case and are probing to ascertain the cause of the fight.
