Submitted by Kumuda on Thu, 2016-06-23 16:28 Mangaluru: Vittal police arrested a six-member gang of inter-state thieves who had been stealing vehicles and stealing areca nut for the past eight months. The police seized two cars, one pickup, one autorickshaw and arecanut weighing around 1,500 kg from their possession, whose total worth is estimated at around Rs 20 lakh. The arrested have been identified as Basheer alias Radukatte Basheer (25) a resident of Kolnad village in Bantwal taluk, Barik (23), Ashraf alias Asru (19), Saifuddin alias Saifu (19), residents of Vittal Padnur village in Bantwal taluk, Jabeer (26) of Balepuni in Ira village, and Zubair (23) of Kudthamuger in Kolnadu village. Accused Radukatte Basheer reportedly has 19 pending cases such as theft, abduction, rape against him. He had earlier been jailed for 18 months in an abduction case involving a minor girl. He was released just seven months ago. Another accused Barik was an accused in an assault case against a journalist in Bantwal while Jabeer was an accused in a theft case in Manjeshwar police station limits. With the arrest, Vittal police claimed to have solved eight cases relating to theft. Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police announced a cash award of Rs 10,000 for the team involved in the operation.
