Police crackdown on over-loaded school vans in district

Submitted by Kumuda on Thu, 2016-06-23 16:22 Mangaluru: Following the death of eight children in an accident at Trasi, Kundapur, district police have begun monitoring school vans and autorickshaws, especially overloaded with schoolchildren. Traffic ACP Uday Nayak and his team – on Wednesday – inspected Ladyhill, Bendoorwell, Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Circle and Rosario School and served notices to four-wheelers ferrying 15 or more children and autos ferrying 10 or more children. Besides, the police have slapped penalty on 150 vehicles for traffic violations and collected over Rs 20,000 from violators. It is learnt that the district police are also planning to issue circular to all schools, asking school van drivers to strictly follow the guidelines.  A meeting will be convened on June 26 to discuss measures to ensure safety of schoolchildren.
