Despite registering many protests against the project in Dakshina Kannada district, the state government has not bothered to listen to the people’s plight, rued Shetty. Stating that the river Netravathi is the lifeline of the district, Shetty observed “While the state government plans to quench the thirst of people of Kolar through Yettinahole, in other way it is cheating the people of Dakshina Kannada. The project would severely affect environment, farming and fisheries.” He criticised district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai for not convincing the chief minister about the project’s adverse impact on the district. However, MLAs J R Lobo, Shakunthala Shetty, Vasanth Bangera, S Angara and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel have joined the protest, he added. In this backdrop, Shetty appealed to Pejawar seer to lead the protest and save river Nethravati.
