Bajrang Dal activists hack BJP leader to death

Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-08-18 13:04 Udupi: In a case of mistaken identity, Bajrang Dal activists allegedly hacked a BJP leader, who they thought belonged to other community, for transporting cattle at Kenjoor near Brahmavar in Udupi on Thursday. The victim is identified as Praveen Poojary (30), a resident of Hebri. It is said Poojary was transporting cattle along with Akshay at Pademut, near Hebri. Aravind Ganiga, a petrol bunk owner along with other 35 other Dal and Hindu Jagran Vedike members, who were on their regular moral policing round, allegedly attacked Poojary and Akshay with a heavy iron rod. While Praveen died on the spot, Akshay sustained severe injuries. Later, the accused threw Praveen’s body in a school premises Pademut and fled. However, the police have managed to take 17 persons into custody. The Brahmavara police are investigating the case and have spread a manhunt to nab the absconding.
