With no concrete evidence to nail the accused, the case is being compared with the plot of famous Malayalam movie ‘Drishyam’ – which was later made in Kannada and Hindi – by investigating officers. The movie revolves around a man and his family who kill a youth – son of a top police officer – for harassing their daughter. Despite strong suspicion, the police fall short of arresting the accused as they would not have tangible evidence. Even the accused who would have erased every piece of information convinces the police of their innocence. The investigating officers in Bhaskar Shetty murder too feel that the case might go the ‘Drishyam-plot’ way. The accused – Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari, son Navneet and Niranjan Bhat Asranna, a priest – have erased all tangible evidences after murdering businessman Shetty. Although, forensic science experts have collected ash from homa kunda – where Shetty was allegedly burnt – it may not help them in big way, feel the investigators. Besides, the accused in police custody are giving contradicting statements about the murder, apparently to mislead the investigation. Surely, the investigation officers are heading no where, just like in the movie, ‘Drishyam’. However, the family members of Shetty are not in a mood to buy ‘Drishyam’ theory of investigating officers. “This is being said just to protect the accused. Are they indirectly acknowledging that they cannot solve the case,” asked a furious member of Shetty family.
