Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-05-21 18:32 Astana: Indian star pugilist Mary Kom's hopes of securing qualification for the forthcoming Rio Olympics were shattered after she crashed out of the second round of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships here in Kazakhstan on Saturday.The 33-year-old, who won the bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics, was required to reach the semi-final stages to be assured of a ticket to Rio.However, the five-time world champion failed to break the defensive tactics of Azize Nimani and went on to lose 0-2 to the German opponent despite producing an aggressive performance in the 51kg category.Following the elimination of Mary, hopes are now pinned on former Asian gold-medallist Sarita Devi in the 60kg category to keep the Indian flag flying.
