The chief guests of the programme were actress Rekha of Big Boss fame, actress Sindhu Loknath, Shobha Rani, DCP, (Traffic, west division, Bengaluru city) and Lakshmi Devi, Deputy Commissioner, BBMP, (East division). Dr M R Chandrasekhar, Medical Director, Sagar Hospitals, said the International Women’s Day celebration was an opportunity to engage with women and empower them. "Mahatma Gandhi said that intellectually, mentally and spiritually woman is equivalent to a male and she can participate in every activity," said Chandrasekhar. "International Women's Day (IWD) originated from a demand for gender parity. Initially apolitical, the women's day took even the shade of a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call for accelerating the gender parity. Now, we should act as a vehicle and a catalyst to achieve 2030 goals of United Nations." "A woman is and epitome of love, sacrifice, care and ability to nurture life. A woman's contribution for the upliftment of mankind has been as significant as that of men. The recent launch of 104 satellites at one time by ISRO involved mostly the contribution of woman scientists," said Chandrasekhar.
