Passenger arrested at MIA for trying to smuggle gold bars in his rectum

Mangaluru: A passenger from Dubai was arrested by sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday for trying to smuggle four gold bars into the country.

The accused has been identified as Chattanchal Abdul Razak, 49, a resident of Kasargod. Acting on credible intelligence, DRI sleuths intercepted Razak shortly after he landed at the Airport. After a thorough interrogation and examination, the passenger revealed he had stashed four gold bars inside his rectum. The gold bars weighing 349.80 gms were valued at Rs10.5 lakh.

Vinayak Bhat, deputy director, DRI, said Razak on interrogation admitted to smuggling gold this way regularly as he knew customs check focused mainly on baggage screening and frisking. Further investigation is on in the case.
