Bengaluru: The roof of the operation theatre in Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari collapsed on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 9.30am. The entire contents of the operation theatre were crushed. Mercifully, there was no operation scheduled at that time.
According to reports, several structures in the 50-year-old hospital are in a dilapidated condition, and it was no surprise that the roof collapsed on Tuesday. Officials from the PWD department had reportedly warned the hospital management about several structures in the hospital being unsafe but the management chose to disregard the warning
And this is not the first such incident in the ill-fated hospital. Recently, the hospital's portico had collapsed, killing one person and injuring several others. There have been two fire accidents as well.
Following the collapse, officials locked the operation theatre.
