Mangaluru: Three Naxals reportedly visited a village in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday night, sources informed.
The armed Naxals' gang included two women and a man, sources added. They paid a visit to a house at Madappady Village in Sullia Taluk and returned after having dinner.
The villagers later informed Subrahmanya station police, who visited the spot and began a probe.
The Naxal movement in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur districts has a history of almost two decades. It may be noted that two Naxals, Usha and Sumati, were killed in an encounter in November 2003 at Eedu village of Karkala taluk in Udupi district.
In February 2005, two Naxals - including senior Naxal leader Saketh Rajan - were gunned down in Chikmagalur district.
Five Naxals were killed in a major police encounter at Menasinahadya village in Chikmagalur district in July 2007.
Another Naxal Anand alias Vasanth Malekudiya (35) of Kutlur in Belthangady was killed in an encounter with ANF personnel and the police in the Mutlupadi Mairoli forest area near Muniyal in Karkala taluk in March 2010.
Since then the movement of Naxals in Western Ghats believed to have been declined. But the surprising appearance of Naxals in Sullia Taluk on Thursday has given boost to the fact that Naxals are still active in western Ghat belt.
