Manipal: The Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), Manipal University, distributed one-thousand rice bags to people from the economically weaker sections at End Point on Saturday.
The event was planned as part of the university's social responsibility. The undergraduate students and faculty members of WGSHA called it, 'Rice Packet Challenge'. Three hundred undergrads raised money to buy 1000kg of rice, which was then distributed among the needy.
The programme was undertaken by students of WGSHA Hotel Management College, Manipal, with support from Principal Prof. Parvadhavardhini. Vice- Principal Chef Thiru presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Chef Thiru said, "Manipal University always help students to prepare their dream careers. Along with academics, the university also works towards becoming socially responsible. The university encourages students to conduct various social service programmes and this in turn creates awareness among students about social issues, promote equity and social justice, educate and serve others."
