Hospitality students live their courses through SEED programme

Submitted by Kumuda on Thu, 2016-04-28 17:12 Manipal: Under the Student Empowerment for Environmental Development (SEED) community, second year students of MSc Hospitality and Tourism, Manipal University conducted various outreach projects in schools of Parkala and Manipal, recently.The projects, all part of the professional development and event management module, were: “Each one Teach one’ at Hirebettu School, “Pathfinder”, the education awareness project at Sarlabettu School and “Gear Shifters” the art and culture appreciation programme at Madhavakripa School.They also conducted classes on hygiene and sanitation, computer, biology, English, art and culture were held and in association with VSO, Manipal University and gram panchayat. The students also started a fruit garden at Hirebettu School and a medicinal plants garden at Sarlabettu School. Also, in Hirebettu School, a library was set up. P Valsaraj, Coordinator of Department of Allied Hospitality Studies, Manipal University was the SEED project faculty mentor.The SEED programmes helped in advancing sustainability by creating partnerships between students, community and faculty on innovative and impactful social and environmental projects. It also provided them with the opportunity to be an active student citizen.
