Submitted by Kumuda on Tue, 2016-04-26 14:59 Mangaluru: With water level fast dipping in Thumbay vented dam, water supply will be restricted to industries from Monday, said Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake. Speaking to mediapersons after reviewing the water level at the dam here on Monday, Sorake said the government’s first priority is to provide drinking water to residents, hence, water connection to all major industries like SEZ, MRPL, MCF and others will be disconnected with immediate effect. Water connection will be resumed once the city receives good amount of rainfall, he added. “The water level has reduced below four feet in the dam. In order to meet the requirements, the corporation has asked AMR Power Pvt Ltd, Shambhoor to release water from their dam. They have already released the water on Monday,” Sorake said. However, he added that Mangaluru city corporation will be able to provide water to city for another 12 days. The MCC has roped in 66 water tankers to meet the growing demands. Besides, a proposal for ‘Paschima Vahini project’ to have permanent water solution has been sent through major irrigation department, said Sorake.
