Especially, his contribution in educating poor children through his mutt is noteworthy, said Agarakallu mutt seer Siddamalla swamy. Paying rich tributes to Sri Shivarathri Rajendra seer at Yelanduru Veerashaiva mutt, Siddamalla swamy said when Mysuru region was severely hit by drought, the seer had pledged his golden casket and ring with pawn brokers to ensure food and education to students of the mutt. Also, the seer would personally visit the houses asking for food grains for the students. Such was his dedication, swamy said. The mutt provides free education to poor children, who mostly come from rural areas. Today, his successor Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamy carries on the legacy, he added. District Sharana Sahitya Parishath President Duggahatti Mallikarjuna Swamy was present.
