Submitted by Subeditor on Wed, 2015-12-30 08:42 Bengaluru: The ruling Congress registered a tremendous victory in MLC election in Karnataka here on Wednesday as the party won 13 out of 25 seats bypassing BJP to just six. The major opposition BJP couldn't make any significant progress in the election and the party felt an unexpected set back in Yeddyurappa's stronghold Shivamogga . Meanwhile, Leaving shock-waves among JDS supporters, Congress candidate M A Gopalaswami won JDS bastion Hassan comfortably. Gopala Swami got 2037 votes where JDS candidate Patel Shivaram bagged only 1832 votes. Responding to the election result, Chief Minister Siddharamaiah said that the victory in Hassan was quite unexpected. Thanking the voters for supporting Congress in the council election, Chief Minister opined that the party performed well in Kodagu and Chkamagaluru though it faced a slight margin defeat. The election for 25 Legislative Council seats were held on December 27 and a total of 106587 members had exercised their franchise.
