4 states, Puducherry to go to polls between April 4 and May 16

Submitted by rajiv on Fri, 2016-03-04 17:03 Bengaluru: The Election Commission has announced the poll dates for assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. The 4 states and Puducherry will go to polls between April 4 and May 16. Votes will be counted on May 19. Elections will be held in Assam in two phases on April 4 and April 11 while in West Bengal, elections will be held in six phases. The first phase will be held on April 4 and 11. Voting for the remaining phases will be conducted on April 17, 21, 25, 30 and May 5. Kerala will have elections in a single phase for all 140 constituencies, with voting on May 16. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will also vote in a single phase on May 16. The model code of conduct is effective immediately, said Chief election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi. The EC also announced the launch of NOTA - or the option of voting for none of the above - on a trial basis in the upcoming elections. The NOTA option will be represented with a cross symbol and will at the bottom of the list, said the EC.
