Hollande attends Republic Day

Submitted by Subeditor on Tue, 2016-01-26 18:07 New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee played host to a traditional and annual Republic Day 'At Home' reception for dignitaries and the general public on the lawns of the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were French President Francois Hollande, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Cabinet Ministers. Former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung were also among those who turned up for the function. French President Hollande was welcomed by Prime Minister Modi and other Indian dignitaries. The President's Bodyguards escorted President Mukherjee to the dais following which the national anthem was played. Thereafter, he mingled with President Hollande, the chief guest for the Republic Day parade, and others. President Mukherjee, his French counterpart and Prime Minister Modi later shared pleasantries with the dignitaries present at the event. President Mukherjee and his French counterpart also posed for the camera along with Prime Minister Modi President Hollande later met the leaders present at the venue whereas his Indian counterpart shook hands with the French delegation. The 'At Home' event concluded after about 45-minutes when President Mukherjee left the venue. Earlier in the day, India's military prowess and cultural diversity was showcased on the occasion of the nation's 67th Republic Day. (ANI)
