Syed Shakir Aga, a resident of JP Nagar 3rd Phase, wants residents to come together and install CCTVs in their neighbourhoods to keep criminals at bay. The costs of running the CCTV can be shared by residents. With that conviction, Shakir Aga started sign a petition on Change.org on May 14 to mobilise people to install CCTV cameras in various localities of Bangalore. Starting a petition on Change.org helps you quickly build awareness for your cause, mobilise supporters, and propose a solution directly to the person who can make the change. “I have installed four CCTV cameras in my house premises. Last year, two strangers stole my bicycle. Later, with the help of CCTV footage, I claimed some money from the insurance company,” said Syed. Syed said that around twenty to thirty houses in one neighbourhood could come together to install CCTVs. “The cost will not be much as everyone will contribute for the installation and the electricity bill will be meagre. This can bring down the crime rate,” he claimed. “If we write a letter to the state government, there will be many hurdles as the bill has to be passed in the cabinet which will consume time. With the help of change.org many people can come together on a single platform and raise their voice for a good cause,” said Syed.
