Submitted by Editor on Sat, 2016-05-07 21:17 Bengaluru: Mayor BN Manjunath Reddy and BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad on Saturday inspected several localities and reminded officials to carry out desilting of storm-water drains and clear encroachments, after Friday’s rain resulted in flooding of several streets. “The raja kulaves are meant to carry storm-water to the lakes, but for the last few years the kaluves have been encroached have not been maintained properly. Hence I have instructed the zonal commissioners and engineers to desilt SWDs and clear encroachments. To start with, officials will begin clearing encroachment from Banaswadi,” said Manjunath Reddy while inspecting the Banaswadi area. The mayor lashed out at the ward engineer after he came across dozens of potholes in the area. He instructed the engineer to fill the potholes soon. During his visit, a pile of over 2,000 vehicles parked outside the Banaswadi Police Station, which had encroached upon the storm-water drain area, caught the mayor’s attention. “I have directed the police officials to auction the vehicles and clear the encroachment on SWD,” said the mayor. BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said the palike was ready for the upcomg monsoon season. “We will form a night squad at the BBMP control room to receive calls related flooding of low-lying areas and resolve them in a short time,” he said.
