BJP's allegations wrong. No glitches in online tax payment service: Mayor


Submitted by Editor on Fri, 2016-05-06 19:26 Bengaluru: Mayor Manjunath Reddy on Friday carried out a surprise inspection of a few property tax collection centres following allegations by the BJP in the BBMP council over inconvenience caused to citizens while paying taxes online.Refuting BJP’s allegation that the online tax payment was glitch-prone, and that the BBMP would miss its target, Manjunath Reddy said 56,877 challans had been generated in just over a month. “So far, a total of Rs340 crores has been collected. To increase the revenue and encourage tax payers, the rebate of 5�ill continue even in May. We want to collect more than 1000 crores for the next month so that we can reach the target of Rs3 crores set this year,” said the mayor. The mayor visited Shantala Nagar ward, MG Road and Residency Road collection centers and also Canara Bank branches to find out if there were any technical glitches. Krishna G, a techie said, “We want more transparency when it comes to spending the tax revenue.  We want proper roads, footpaths, and proper solid-waste management."Shanbhog, a senior citizen, said people didn’t have any problem in making online payments. “We don’t have problem with hike in property tax.
