Submitted by Editor on Fri, 2016-04-29 01:26 Bengaluru: The East West corridor of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will be inaugurated today at 6 pm by CM Siddaramaiah and Union Urban Devlopment Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.“It will cost Rs 40 to commute from Baiyappanahalli to Nayandahalli and we have offered 15�iscount for smart card users,” said Vasanth Rao, spokesperson, BMRCL.He also said that the time period taken to build 5.12 km underground metro on the east west corridor was four long years.To get more people use Metro over other modes of public transport, BMRCL has launched Varshik, a smartcard scheme which enables travel only between two stations but comes with 17 to 24 percent discount.Trains restricted to run at a speed of 38-40 km per hourWith a view to maintian safety standards of the train and passengers as well, the trains in the undergorund section are restricted to run at a speed of 38-40km per hour. Even on the elevated section, trains dont run beyond 38-40 km per hour even.“The trains take almost half a kilometer to pick up with speed or even to come to a halt. The distance between each station is just 1 km. As the distance between wo stations is just 1000 meters , it has been decided to keep to 38-40 km per hour,” he added.BMRCL missed datelineThe BMRCL officials had said that the underground stretch to be thrown open by the end of February. Earlier they had scheduled open by January first week.According to the sources, the inspection and other reports on safety were delayed due to some reasons. Initially, the dateline was scheduled by November 2015, then it was pushed to December 2015, after that to January 2016 and that to February 2016 and now April 2016.
