For, a few of our cabinet ministers who have been penalised by traffic police for violations, have been sleeping over their due challans. Or do they believe that the rules do not apply to them? Most probably, the latter one. City traffic police have served penalty on energy minister DK Shivakumar, law and parliamentary affairs minister TB Jayachandra, water resources minister HK Patil and PWD minister HC Mahadevappa. A Vento car (KA04 MH 8244) belonging to water resource minister HK Patil was fined twice for driving in no entry area and also parking in no parking zone in 2014 and 2016. Yet, it appears the minister hasn’t found time to pay the penalty. It’s sheer irony that Law minister TB Jayachandra too is accused of traffic violation. His car (KA 34 M 5157) was found parked on footpath meant for pedestrians. Energy minister DK Shivakumar’s car was found parked in the no parking zone near Iskcon temple. Both the ministers are yet to reply to their penalty. But it is PWD minister HC Mahadevappa who takes the cake. The car owned by him was penalised for four times for – not wearing seat belt, using mobile while driving and parking on footpath. If you and I are caught for traffic violation, the police will slap a spot fine and insist on spot payment too. But that’s not the case with politicians. Sure, laws are for everyone, except for politicians.
