New board to implement Yettinahole project soon

Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-04-20 19:41 Bengaluru: The State government will set up another board – on the lines of Karnataka Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited and Karnataka Niravari Nigam Limited – for effective implementation of Yettinahole drinking water project. However, jurisdiction of the board would be decided shortly.Addressing the Yettinahole Action Committee delegation led by Anjana Reddy here on Wednesday, water resources minister MB Patil said the government is also contemplating to form an expert committee comprising engineers and environmentalists to explore alternate sources of water to the parched districts of Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru rural, Tumakuru and Ramanagara districts.Through the Yettinahole project, the government aims to quench the drought-prone districts like Tumakuru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur. The project proposes to lift water from Yettinahole river near Sakleshpur in Hassan district and provide it through pipeline running up to 274 kms to dry districts. Though there have been many protests against the project, the government is going ahead with it.
