Power tariff to pinch urban users more

Submitted by Editor on Wed, 2016-03-30 14:21 Bengaluru: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased tariff for domestic consumers in urban areas. For monthly consumption of thirty units is increased from Rupees 2. 70 per unit to Rs 3 per unit and for consumption between 31 and 100 units, the tariff is hiked from Rs 4 to Rs 4. 40 per unit.However, for the domestic consumers in rural areas, tariff for monthly consumption up to thirty units is increased from Rs 2. 60 per unit to Rs 2. 90 per unit. Between 31 to 100 units, the tariff is increased from Rs 3. 70 per unit to Rs 4. 10 per unit.KERC chairman, Shankaralinge Gowda, said, "Following a breakdown in Sharavathy hydro power station, power procurement cost has gone up to five paise per unit. Besides, there has been an increase in power purchase due to addition of new sources of thermal power, cost of operation and transmission accounting to 15 paise per unit.  Hence, tariff rates have been hiked.”For more details
